MOFA welcomes passing of FTA by National Assembly of Nicaragua

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed welcome on December 18 after the National Assembly of Nicaragua passed unanimously a free trade agreement (FTA) signed between Taiwan and Nicaragua .

  MOFA officials said that Taiwan and Nicaragua conducted four rounds of FTA talks. Taiwan and Nicaragua represented by former Minister of Economic Affairs Hwang Ing-san and Nicaragua Minister of Industry, Development and Commerce Alejandro Arguello, respectively, signed the FTA June 16, Taiwan 's Legislative Yuan will review the FTA signed with Nicaragua soon.

  MOFA officials said that the Nicaraguan National Assembly's passing of the FTA unanimously Dec. 13 demonstrates its intention to promote bilateral trade and boost friendship between Taiwan and Nicaragua .

  The officials said that the FTA with Nicaragua will be the third such agreement between Taiwan and its allies in Central and South America, following similar agreements with Panama and Guatemala .
