96% of Chinese tourists wish to visit Taiwan again: survey

Ninety-six percent of Chinese tourists arriving in Taiwan between January and September 2006 said they would like to visit Taiwan again, according to the result of a survey conducted by the Tourism Bureau on December 26.

The survey of 444 Chinese tourists in Taiwan also showed they spent US$235.86 on average per day per person, and they spoke highly of Taiwanese people's friendly attitude, the country's social order, and overall accommodation. But they cited the "slow speed in getting a visa" as least satisfactory, the survey showed.

To ensure a quality experience for Chinese visitors, the Tourism Bureau has since November distributed the questionnaires at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Kaohsiung International Airport to learn about Chinese impressions of Taiwan .

According to 270 valid samples received, 94 percent said they were satisfied with the overall service provided by Taiwan 's travel agencies.

The tourists were most satisfied with the explanation of tourist guides, as well as their service quality (99 percent), and were least satisfied with dining arrangements, at 84.4 percent.

Regarding shopping, 40.4 percent said the prices are fine, but those who think expensive or very expensive accounted for 40.7 percent, with only 4.1 percent saying the prices were inexpensive. Tourism Bureau Chief Lai Ser-jen said this is probably due to the fact that prices in China are much lower than in Taiwan .

Chinese tourists made 54,000 visits to Taiwan last year, and as of Dec. 25 2006, they have made 97,000 visits.
